Enclosure

August 22, 2002

Martinsville

The Honorable Mayor and City Council
City of Martinsville
Martinswille, Virginia

Council Members,

The Planning Commission, at a meeting on August 22, 2002, conducted a public
hearing on a request from The City of Martinsville to rezone tax map parcels
33-03-0-08, 09 & 33~03-P-10, 11, 12, 13 from M-2 Manufacturing to R-6 Residential.
The physical addresses are 119-123 and 125 Maple Street.

The six properties proposed for rezoning are zoned manufacturing but are residential
in use and have a long history of residential use. The Proposed (future) Land Use Plan
has all of these parcels as proposed for high density residential development. The
reasoning for this rezoning proposal is to bring these properties in line with the
Proposed Land Use Plan and the zoning in line with the actual use.

Following a public hearing, in which one person spoke in opposition to the proposed
rezoning amendment, the Planning Commission vote was 3-2 w/th one (1) abstention
to recommend to City Council that the rezoning amendment be denied as proposed.
The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above request for Council's further
consideration.

Sincerely,

/ames Barnett, Secretary

Wayne D.
