33 <br /> <br />June 11,2002 <br /> <br />Ordinance 2002-8; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following roll call <br />vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, <br />Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered adoption, on second reading, of Amendment to Ordinance <br />2002-2 adding Section 1-16 Special Assessment for funding of courthouse security <br />personnel as part of costs in criminal and traffic cases to Chapter 1 of the City Code. <br />Council Member Roop moved to adopt, on second reading, of the following Amendment <br />to Ordinance 2002-2; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following roll call <br />vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, <br />Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> Virginia, in regular session held on May 28, 2002 that Section 1-16 <br /> be added to Chapter 1 of the Martinsville Code to read as follows: <br /> "Sec, '1-16. Special assessment for funding of <br /> courthouse security personnel as part of costs in <br /> criminal and traffic cases, <br /> Five Dollars ($5.00) shall be assessed as part of the costs in each <br /> criminal and traffic case in the General District Court of the City of <br /> Martinsville, or in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District <br /> Court of the City of Martinsville, or in the Circuit Court of the City <br /> of Martinsville in which the defendant is convicted of a violation of <br /> any statute or ordinance, pursuant to the provisions of Section <br /> 53.1-120D. of the 1950 Code of Virginia, as amended. Such <br /> assessment shall be collected by the clerk of court in which the <br /> case is heard, remitted to the city treasurer and held by sach <br /> treasurer subject to appropriation by this Council to the sheriffs <br /> office for the funding of courthouse security personnel. This <br /> assessment shall be in addition to all other costs prescribed by law. <br /> <br /> Council conducted a Public Hearing for the purpose of receiving/interviewing <br /> citizens interested in appointment to two positions on the City's School Board.
