Phillips <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has designated selected areas for economic <br />growth and revitalization under the Enterprise Zone program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone designation continues to play a vital role in promoting <br />the expansion of existing firms as well as the location of new firms within Martinsville; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone incentives have significantly contributed to the City's <br />marketing efforts and helped create a number of jobs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these efforts have helped offset the loss of jobs due to plant closures, <br />downsizing, modernization, global competition and economic downturns; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Enterprise Zone Amendment will allow for the deletion of one of the <br />existing incentives and the implementation of one new incentive, as well as the revision <br />of existing and the inclusion of several additional Standard Industry Classification (SIC) <br />codes; now, therefore <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia in regular <br />session assembled June 25, 2002, that it hereby authorizes the City Manager to submit all <br />information needed to apply for the Enterprise Zone Amendment and to continue <br />carrying out all administrative and reporting requirements on its behalf. <br /> <br />Attest: <br /> <br />Johnathan B.
