May 28, 2002 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the proposed truck tolls do not pay for the entire <br /> project and thus, the cost to the Commonwealth may delay other <br /> nomlnterstate 81 related projects in which the City of Martinsville <br /> and its Citizens are vitally interested; now, therefore <br /> BE IT BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> Virginia, in regular session assembled May 28, 2002, that the City <br /> of Martinsville is opposed to placing tolls on trucks as proposed by <br /> Star Solutions to fund improvements to Interstate 81. <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree presented a proclamation to the Martinsville-Henry County <br /> <br />Rescue Squad declaring 2002 as their 50th Anniversary. Members accepting included <br /> <br />Virginia L. Phillips, Mark Puckett, and Jerry Campbell. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Barry Nelson, Coach of the Patrick <br />Henry Community College Baseball Team, requested the use of Hooker Field for next <br />year's season. The current policy of allowing the Martinsville High School, American <br />Legion, and Colt League teams' use was reviewed. By general consensus with no vote <br />taken, Council requested that Administration perform a cost analysis of Mr. Nelson's <br />request. John Sanders, of 308 Starling Avenue, spoke in response to the Citizen <br />Survey and economic development. <br /> <br /> Anne Frazier and Barbara Parker, of the Piedmont Arts Association, presented <br />their agency's budget request. <br /> <br /> Steve Pike, Executive Director of the Virginia Museum of Natural History, <br /> presented his agency's budget request. <br /> <br /> Charles Toothman, Business Manager of the Health Department, presented his <br /> agency's budget request. <br /> <br /> Clark Eden, Chairman of the Blue Ridge Airport Authority, presented his <br /> <br />agency's budget request. <br /> <br /> <br />
