October 23, 2001 <br /> <br />Enclosure #1-a t72 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on October 23, 2001, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following a review of the new broadcasting capabilities of Council Chamber by <br />Mayor Crabtree and the invocation by Council Member Ferrill, Mayor Crabtree <br />welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt the Minutes of October 4, 2001, as <br />amended, and October 9, 2001, as presented; the motion was duly seconded and <br />carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, <br />Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Reverend Tyler Millner, of Morning <br /> <br />Star Holy Church, expressed appreciation to the City for its support of the 8th Annual <br /> <br />Citizen Awareness Program. Thelma Pinkard, of 208 Park Street, requested an update <br />regarding Virginia Hutcherson's house and the rental assistance resolution. Wayne D. <br />P. Knox, Planning, Zoning, & Housing Manager, replied with. a detailed account of what <br />the City has done to obtain suitable housing and reported that the public hearing for <br />rezoning of a property acceptable to Mrs. Hutcherson has been set. He added that the <br />resolution has been sent to the Virginia Housing Development Authority. John Sanders, <br />of 208 Starling Avenue, requested monthly economic development reports.
