Enclosure #1-b 166 <br /> <br />October 9, 2001 <br /> <br />A regular, semi-monthly <br /> <br />meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held on October 9, 2001, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Council Member Dallas, Mayor Crabtree welcomed <br />everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt the Minutes of September 25, 2001, as <br />presented; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all <br />members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays <br />(0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Reverend Tyler Millner, of Morning <br /> Star Holy Church, expressed appreciation to Police Chief Michael Rogers for the <br /> "professional, deliberate handling of the Clarence Simington situation" and the <br /> subsequent resignation of Mr. Simington from the Police Department. He announced <br /> that the 8th Annual Citizen Awareness Program will be celebrated October 14 - 20, <br /> 2001. Mayor Crabtree read a proclamation proclaiming such. Thelma Pinkard, of 208 <br /> Park Street, expressed her best wishes to Mr. Simington on his future endeavors and <br /> thanked Chief Rogers. Chief Rogers replied, "This was a difficult time. I encourage <br /> everyone to keep Mr. Simington in their prayers. Thanks to the police officers and <br /> citizens for their cooperation." <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree solicited input from the audience regarding where on the agenda <br /> "Business from the Floor" should be.
