Phillips <br /> <br /> REQUESTING AMENDMENT TO <br />SECTION 8 RENTAL ASSISTANCE REGULATIONS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville's Office of Housing Services operates the Section 8 <br />Rental Assistance Program through the Virginia Housing Development Authority; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, several instances of disturbance of the peace have been reported to the <br />City's Office of Housing Services regarding tenants participating in the Section 8 Tenant- <br />Based Assistance Rental Voucher Lease Program; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the authority is not within the pervue of the Office of Housing Services to <br />terminate assistance to the perpetrators of these instances of disturbance of the peace, as <br />per the guidelines of the Virginia Housing Development Authority; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />session held on October 9, 2001, that said Council does hereby request the Virginia <br />Housing Development Authority to amend its guidelines to authorize the local <br />jurisdictions administering the Section 8 Rental Assistance to be able to terminate such <br />assistance to tenants who, following several complaints, still conduct themselves and/or <br />allow other persons on the premises with his consent, whether known by the tenant or <br />not, in a manner that disturbs his neighbors' peaceful enjoyment of their contract units <br />and is otherwise noisy, dangerous, disruptive or injurious to the rights, privileges and <br />welfare of such other residents and other persons in the surrounding neighborhood; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that a certified copy of this Resolution <br />requesting authority to vacate such tenants shall be sent to the administration of the <br />Virginia Housing Development Authority. <br /> <br />Attest: <br /> <br />Johnathan B.
