July 5, 2001 <br /> <br />J <br /> <br />Assistant City Manager/Director of Finance; the motion was duly seconded and carried <br />by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, <br />Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. Council requested that David B. Worthy, City <br /> <br />Attorney, be involved as appropriate. <br /> Council considered a status report on the establishment of an Economic <br />Development Office for the City of Martinsville. Tom Harned, Assistant to the City <br />Manager for Community Development, presented an up-to-date review and task list. He <br />stated that the task list includes: refining the budget; finalizing the lease and setting up <br />the office at 58 West Church Street; writing job descriptions and hiring employees, <br />anticipating three new employees; and developing a mission statement and marketing <br /> <br />materials and a webpage. <br /> Council considered adoption of a Resolution authorizing the City's membership in <br />the Virginia Municipal Liability Pool of the Virginia Municipal Self-Insurance Association. <br />City Manager Reynolds stated that this pool offered increased coverage at a <br />significantly lower price. Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopt the following Resolution; <br />the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members <br />voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville, Virginia, wishes to join with <br /> other political subdivisions to establish the Virginia Municipal Self- <br /> Insurance Association ("Association") to create pools to jointly and <br /> cooperatively self-insure and to pool separate risks and liabilities of <br /> the individual members pursuant to the terms of Title 15.2, Section <br /> 2700-2709 of the Code of Virginia; and <br /> WHEREAS, through such Association, the City of Martinsville <br /> wishes to join with other political subdivisions to create the Virginia <br /> Municipal Liability Pool ("Pool") whereby members can jointly pool <br /> funds to provide the necessary anticipated.financing for c0~ercial <br /> general liability, automobile liability, and automobile' physical <br /> damage; and <br /> <br /> <br />
