126 <br />August 14, 2001 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />employment, <br />technological <br /> <br />Renee has made significant contributions since her <br /> such as job fairs, water campaign, physical and <br /> improvements of Council Chambers, MINET <br /> <br /> marketing program, Workforce Investment Act program, Virginia <br /> Tobacco Commission, tourism, various brochures; and <br /> WHEREAS, Renee has accepted employment with the City of <br /> Danville, Virginia, to work in their economic development program; <br /> now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council and the Administration of the City <br /> of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular session assembled on August 14, <br /> 2001, that we hereby express our appreciation for Renee's <br /> dedicated service to the City of Martinsville and wish her success in <br /> her future career endeavors. <br /> <br />Betty Jane Simpson, of the Blue Ridge Regional Library Board, introduced Hal <br />Hubener, the new Director of the Library. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Thelma Pinkard, of 208 Park Street, <br />introduced Virginia Hutcherson, and stated that Mrs. Hutcherson's house will be torn <br />down and requested assistance with finding her new housing. Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., <br />City Manager, replied that the City has been working with Mrs. Hutcherson for years <br />and that a lot has been identified. However, the lot is zoned industrial and a request will <br />need to go through the Planning Commission for rezoning. <br /> <br /> Council considered adoption of a Resolution requesting the Virginia Department <br />of Transportation to act favorably on the proposal by Branch Highways to build U. S. <br />Route 58 (from Stuart to 1-77 in Carroll County) under the Public Private Transportation <br />Act. Thomas Harned, Economic Development Director, stated that this proposal would <br />speed the process up with no cost to the City. Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt <br />the following Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following <br />vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, <br />Teague; Nays (0)- None: <br /> <br /> <br />
