Phillips <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City School System has actively participated in the <br />feasibility study for the planning and development of the Piedmont Govemor's School <br />for Mathematics, Science and Technology for the jurisdictions of the Counties of Hem'y, <br />Patrick and Pittsylvania and the Cities of Martinsville and Danville; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City School Board recognizes the need for an academic <br />year Regional Governor's School for high-achieving, highly-motivated, and <br />academically-gifted students; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, after review and consideration of the resultant feasibility study, it has been <br />formally accepted by the Martinsville City School Board; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville realizes a Regional Governor's School would <br />complement the Community's efforts to recruit incoming businesses and families to our <br />area; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pending final review, approval and appropriation of funds by the Virginia <br />Board of Education and the Virginia General Assembly, the Martinsville City School <br />Board plans to participate in the program commencing with the 2002 School Year as a <br />member of the Governing Board; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />session assembled September 11, 2001, that it does fully support the Piedmont <br />Governor's School program and urges the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia <br />General Assembly to favorable act for the implementation of the Piedmont Governor's <br />School by appropriating sufficient funding. <br /> <br />Attest <br /> <br />Johnathan B.
