Academic Year Governor's School <br />Executive Summary <br /> June, 2001 <br /> <br />L <br /> <br />Organizational Structure of the Proposed Piedmont Governor's School <br />For Mathematics, Science and Technology <br /> <br /> Number of students will total 140 with 70 students at each site. <br /> Superintendents agree upon the following breakdown for slots: <br /> Danville City 30, <br /> Henry County 30, <br /> Martinsville City 20, <br /> Patrick County 20, and <br /> Pittsylvania County 40. <br />· The director and secretary will be twelve month employees. Ten <br /> teachers will compose the school's faculty: 4 for mathematics, 4 for <br /> science, 1 for English, and 1 for research under ten month contracts. <br />· Technology maintenance will be handled at the Danville site by the <br /> two school divisions sending students to DCC whereas the Patrick <br /> Henry site will have maintenance of technology provided by the <br /> Community College. <br />· The fiscal agent for the school should be the school division in which <br /> the director's primary office is located. <br />· Each Superintendent stated a commitment to continue with the <br /> development of the academic year Governor's School. <br /> <br />Curriculum Proposal <br /> <br />· The instructor fo~ the Research and Methodology and Senior Research <br /> Application and Evaluation comes will be a shared individual servicing <br /> both sites. <br />· English 11 and College Composition will be offered only at the Danville <br /> site in order for students in Pittsylvania County to have the opportunity to <br /> have at least two electives both the junior and senior year at the home <br /> school. English offered at the Governor's School will also allow those <br /> students in Danville City to obtain at least the same number of high school <br /> credits as those students who elect to remain at the home school all day. <br />· The English concerns are not relevant to Henry County, Martinsville City <br /> or Patrick County. <br />· The English 11 will not be for dual enrollment credit, but the College <br /> Composition will be 6 credits. <br />· Carnegie units and verified credits are in line with state requirements in <br /> regards to comes that will be offered at the Governor's School. <br /> <br /> <br />
