May 8,2001 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on May 8, 2001, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:31 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Council Member Dallas, Mayor Crabtree welcomed <br />everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council Member Dallas moved to approve the minutes of April 30, 2001, as <br />presented; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all <br />Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays <br /> <br />members voting: <br /> <br />(0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. <br />Avenue, <br />Henry]. <br /> <br />John Sanders, of 208 Starling <br />asked about the economic development negotiations with the County [of <br />Mayor Crabtree responded that the City Staff is fully prepared to work <br />prospects and that the City is prepared to work independently or in a collaborative effort <br />with the County. Vice Mayor Teague added that the City has not requested a delay. <br />City Sheriff Steve Draper announced that "National Night Out" would be held on <br />Tuesday, August 7, 2001, in the parking lot across from the former Globman's building. <br />It will start at 6:00 P. M., with a parade proceeding at 5:45 P. M. <br /> <br /> Council considered awarding a contract for renovations to the Municipal Building <br />for Martinsville General District Court space and appropriate funding. Council Member <br />Dallas moved to award a construction contract to Nichols Construction of Collinsville for <br /> <br /> <br />
