Enclosure #3

R .P. THOMAS PLANNING GRANT

STATUS REPORT

The Planning grant being utilized for the future redevelopment of the R.P. Thomas site is
proceeding as anticipated and on schedule. Two (2) community meetings have been
conducted, with good attendance at both. There have been two management team
meetings conducted that have been very productive.

The management team consists of 12 individuals from the surrounding neighborhood,
city govemment, the banking community, and the real estate and construction
communities. These meetings were facilitated by a representative of the Department of
Housing and Community Development.

Surveys have been conducted via mail, door - to - door and the local newspaper to
determine the needs and desires of the neighborhood residents and potential new
homebuyers. The ongoing results have been shared with the neighborhood residents at
the two community meetings held at neighborhood churches.

The next steps involve a public hearing (March 13th) that is required prior to making any
application for the larger grant, i.e. Community Improvement Grant. FUrther, a meeting
inviting potential builders/developers is being planned to receive input about the realities
and interest in constructing new residences on the former R. P. Thomas site.

Following the public hearing and subsequent meetings with builders and residences, it
will be City Council's decision to either go forward with the pursuit if a larger grant for
the preparation of the site or to wait until a future date~
