November 28, 2000 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Branch Banking & Trust (BB&T) is a major financial <br />institution in the Martinsville-Henry County area, offering financial <br />services, employment, investment capital, and other civic <br />contributions to the improvement of living conditions in our area; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, BB&T has donated the third floor of their building at <br />Church and Ellsworth for one year, rent free, to the City of <br />Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority for use as a <br />technology incubator; and <br />WHEREAS, BB&T has also donated property at 18 Cleveland <br />Avenue known as the old Family YMCA to the City of Martinsville <br />Redevelopment and Housing Authority for use by the Martinsville <br />Middle School; and <br />WHEREAS, BB&T has made this property available to the Authority <br />for the Authority's use exclusively for public purposes and for the <br />intended purposes of the Authority as established by the City of <br />Martinsvi!le; and <br />WHEREAS, BB&T has made available, by lease to the City, two <br />parking lots adjacent' to the old;YMCA property, one fronting East <br />Church Street and one fronting Cleveland Avenue, for use by the <br />Martinsville Middle School; and ~ ' ' <br />WHEREAS, the gifted property will be providing opportunities for <br />key economic development projects that will result in economic <br />stability, expansion of the tax base and job growth; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Martinsville that it does hereby <br />thank and recognize Branch Banking and Trust for its contribution <br />in supporting economic growth in the City of Martinsville and Henry <br />County. <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopt the following Resolution, which was <br />accepted by George Harris; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following <br /> <br />vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, <br /> <br />Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for more than 100 years, the Martinsville Bulletin has <br />been keeping the citizens of Martinsville, Henry County, and Patdck <br />County informed about the communities and the world; and <br />WHEREAS, during the past year our community has experienced <br />significant economic difficulties and most recently the rapid loss of <br />once stable employment has created much anxiety and enormous <br />financial hardship on many of our citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, the Haskell family has contributed to the community <br />throughout the years and has now initiated and joined forces with <br /> <br /> <br />
