Box 466 <br />Stuart, Virginia 24171 <br /> <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br /> Enclosed is a copy of a letter from the Supreme Court of Virginia wherein the <br />State has access to grant money to pay for equipment necessary for video <br />arraignrnents/conferencing systems in the courtrooms of Martinsville and Patrick County <br />Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Courts. Having this system available will greatly <br />reduce the burden on the sheriff departments to transport juveniles back and forth from <br />Danville, Culpeper, and other facilities around the State. Obviously, this will save the <br />localities significant expenses incurred in the transportation process (including wages for <br />two deputies, gasoline, depreciation of vehicles and overtime). <br /> <br /> The only hitch or cost to the locality is the requirement to assume responsibility <br />for installing the necessary lines, paying the monthly charges, and the per minute fees. <br />Estimates of these costs are described on page two of the attached letter. <br /> <br /> Before we can request the Supreme Court to initiate the process, the localities <br />must agree to assume the responsibilities listed on page two of the attachment.
