Small General Service (S.G.S.) consumer. The term "S.G.S." consumer shall have the same <br />meaning as defined in the City of Martinsville, Virginia Electric Service Terms and Conditions approved <br />by' City Council on March 1, 1998 or subsequently amended. <br /> <br /> Service provider. The term "service provider" means the person or business to include the City of <br />Manhsville, who delivers electricity or water service. whether metered or unmeterecl. <br /> <br /> Used primarily. The term "used primaffiv" relates to the lar~er portion of the use for which <br />electric utility. service is furnisheeL <br /> <br /> Seller. The ~vord "seller" means any person ~vho sells and furnishes any utility service, whether <br />motered or unmetorecL <br /> <br /> UtiliO~ service. The term "utility service" means electric service or water sexyice furnished or used <br />within the corporate limits of the city. <br />(Code 1971, 6-38) <br /> <br />Sec. 21-29. Purpose and policy. <br /> <br /> It is the purpose and policy of the city, in enacting this article imposing a tax on the users of <br />electricity and water within the city, to equalize, as far as practicable, the burden of taxation among its <br />citizens. <br /> <br />Sec. 21-30 Levied; mount on water service. <br /> <br />(a) There is hcroby imposed and levied by the city, upon each purchaser or user of a_utility <br /> service, a monthly tax of one dollar ($1.00). <br />(b) In addition to the foregoing there is heroby imposed and levied on every residontial user of <br /> electric service an additional tax as follows: <br /> (1) One dollar ($1.00) where the monthly electric servico charge decs not exceed ten dollars <br /> ($1o.oo). <br /> (2) One dollar and ~-~y cents ($1.50) where the monthly electric service charge exceeds ten <br /> dollars ($10.00) but does not cxceod twenty dollars ($20.00). <br /> (3) Two dollars ($2.00) where the monthly eloctric service charge exceeds twenty dollars <br /> ($20.00). <br /> (~l) Where the monthly electric service is unmetorod, one dollar ($1.00) <br />(c) In addition to tho foregoing then: is hereby imposed and levied, on every commercial or <br /> industrial ~ of elcctric service an additional tax as follows: <br /> (1) Fifth (15) In'cent of each monthly. eloctric service charge, cxccl~t that no tax shall bc <br /> impo,'~cl on so muoh of each monthly eloctric service charge as shall exceed the mount <br /> of two thousand six hundred sixty six dollars and sixty sevencents ($2,666.67) and <br /> provided that the total monthly tax imposed a~inst any person hereunclor shall not <br /> excc~ the amount of four hundred dollars ($400.00). <br /> (2) Who, re the monthly eloctric service is untoeternal, two dollars ($2.00). <br />(d) . In all oases where the seller colleers the price or submits bills for ol~ric senice for periods <br /> of two (2) months, the tax for each two (2) months' period shall bc double or twice that herein <br /> above imposed. <br /> <br />Them is hereby imposed and levied by the city, upon each customer account with an active water service <br />but no electric service a monthly tax of one dollar ($1.00) <br /> <br />(Code 1971, 6-39, 641; Ord of 6-25-74) <br />State law reference - Au. thority for above tax, Code of Virginia, 58-587. 1, 58417.2. <br /> <br /> <br />
